If I am ever having surgery and someone who claims to be working with or for my surgeon comes and asks me what operation I am having and how my condition was diagnosed, that close to operation time....
Earlier this week, I called the HUP accounting office (or at least the phone number which appears on account statements from HUP) to ask questions about a recent statement, on account of having the day before received a phone call from someone claiming to be in the same department telling me very different information about the same account.
The first question I was asked was, "What hospital was this at?"
Later, after I'd described the other caller--who also claimed to be from the HUP business office--this person said she'd never heard of her and didn't recognize the phone number as having anything to do with HUP. Despite them both having given me the same patient account number over the phone.
It's encouraging to know that the medical side of hospitals is right up there with the accounting side. I'm glad to know there's at least one good person in the system.
